Many questions have arisen following the New York Times article warning consumers of the dangers of unhealthy levels of lead in reusable polypropylene bags. Envirosax bags are 100% High Grade Polyester – NOT polypropylene – so Envirosax bags are safe to use.

Here are some facts to put your mind at ease if you use Envirosax bags:

Envirosax bags are made from polyester material NOT polypropylene. Polypropylene material breaks down in UV light (sunlight) dispersing potentially toxic particles over your food, car, home etc. Polyester material does not do this.
The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) is recently introduced US legislation that establishes maximum safe levels of lead content in various consumer products, and establishes a certification process to ensure those products are safe for use by children.
All Envirosax reusable bags have been tested for lead by an approved CPSA laboratory, Applied Technical Services Inc. in the USA and found to be in compliance with all applicable safety guidelines. All Envirosax reusable bags have been tested by Applied Technical Services Inc. down to 10 parts per million (ppm) and no lead was found at this level.
Many cheap Polypropylene bags tested as high as 500ppm, most hit 100ppm posing potential health risks.

Plastic bag facts

Approx. 380 billion plastic bags are used in the United States every year. That’s more than 1,200 bags per US resident, per year.
Approx. 100 billion of the 380 billion are plastic shopping bags.
An estimated 12 million barrels of oil is required to make that many plastic bags.
Only 1 to 2% of plastic bags in the USA end up getting recycled.
Americans consume more than 10 billion paper bags per year. Approximately 14 million trees are cut down every year for paper bag production.
Most of the pulp used for paper shopping bags is virgin pulp, as it is considered stronger.
Paper production requires hundreds of thousands of gallons of water as well as toxic chemicals like sulphurous acid, which can lead to acid rain and water pollution.

My daughter Ana on her first day in school last August loving her new lunchbox! I know it's February now but still the best lunchbox ever!

So classic! Durable and stylish. Doesn't get any better.

From the looks of it, she could definitely have it next school year if it wasn't for kids wanting new stuff the beginning of every school year. I'm sure we will find someone that would love it though.

So I delivered an bumGenius order today to a home and found out that the order was a gift for a friend who is pregnant. Apparently, the pregnancy was not planned for and was a surprise. The family is having some financials stress and so friends of the mom-to-be again, decided to buy her reusable diapers. How brilliant! We don't really think about how expensive disposable diapers are because it's such a convenience. But a convenience to who's expense? That's the real question.

Either way, I was so pleased to hear the story and hope many new moms or moms for a second or third time will consider the switch. Actually, even more money can be saved to second and third time moms because reusable diapers can be saved or even kept as heirloom pieces.

I am so sad to hear that one of my most beautiful organic clothing line is no longer going to be in business. Costly yes, but I put their clothes to the test on my then 2yr. She is going to be 3 now and she still wears her 18-24mo. size from Kice Kice. Now maybe some might say, well your child must not be fed if she's 3 and wearing 18-24mo. size clothing. I am proud to say that I have a very healthy child, and my point to this is that the quality, workmanship and design of Kice Kice collection is a kids line that I have not seen in a long time. So september is Organic Harvest month. In 1992, the Organic Trade Association implemented "Organic Harvest Month", a widespread promotion of organic food and agriculture through regional and local events.

Here is a little 411 on conventional cotton vs. organic cotton that I would like to share with everyone...

Conventional (also known as traditional or commercial) grown cotton is ordinarily one of the crops most heavily sprayed with pesticides. To bring this plant to harvest, it is heavily sprayed 30 to 40 times a season in extreme cases with pesticides so poisonous they gradually render fields barren. To create finished goods, fabrics are usually colored with toxic dyes and finished with formaldehyde. Worldwide,conventional cotton farming uses only about 3% of the farmland but consumes 25 percent of the chemical pesticides and fertilizers. In the United States alone, approximately 600 thousand tons of pesticides and chemical fertilizers are applied to cotton fields each season. To complicate matters, insects are quickly becoming resistant to recommended rates of pesticide application and ever increasing amounts are needed be effective.

The Alternative

Certified organic cotton is cotton grown in fields where the use of pesticides have been discontinued for at least 3 years and where rigorous controls help rebuild the soil's natural fertility. Organic farming is a farming system which relies on natural inputs only. No synthetically produced pesticides or fertilizers are used. Mother Nature is allowed to have much more of an influence. Beneficial insects are allowed to flourish to keep pest insects in check. Crop rotations with legumes help maintain fertility and soil microbiology. Weeds are controlled with precision tillage and the old fashioned hoe. The successful organic farm requires much more intensive and innovative management.

One of the many reasons why I concentrate on organic clothing for babies and toddlers. I always say that I believe in making the right choices from the start... but there's no better time than the present to make any change in life. I know that eating organic and living the organic lifestyle can be expensive but anything done in moderation is a step in the right direction. So, know what foods are on the top list for the highest amount of pesticide contamination and chose to purchase those organic instead. In the end, you'll end up saving money for those doctor visits.

why are plastic bags still around???

Data release by the United States Environmental Protection Agency shows that somewhere between 500 billion and a trillion plastic bags are consumed worldwide each year

Less than 1% of bags are recycled. It costs more to recycle a bag than to produce a new one.

So where do they end up?

A study in 1975, showed oceangoing vessels together dumped 8 million pounds of plastic annually. One reason that the world's landfill's were not overflowing with plastic was because most of it ended up in an ocean-fill.

Plastic bags have been found floating north of the Artic Circle near Spitzbergen, and as far south as Falklagrade | over time they break down into smaller, more toxic petro-polymers which eventually contaminate soils and waterwaysnd Islands.
Plastic bags account for over 10 percent of the debris washed up on the U.S. coastline.

The effect on wildlife becomes catastrophic, birds become terminally entangled

Nearly 200 different species of sea life including whales, dolphins, seals and turtles die due to plastic bags... some die after ingesting plastic bags which they mistake for food

March 27, 2007, San Francisco becomes the first U.S. city to ban plastic bags
